History

Many people who come to Korea will have a great interest in Korean Soju. In fact, Korean soju has a very long history. Soju is an alcoholic drink in Korea. Generally, the degree of soju should not exceed 35 degrees. As the price of soju in Korea is relatively low, it is a very common drink. With the economic development in recent years, South Korea's soju industry is also gradually improving, and South Korea's other alcoholic products are becoming more and more abundant.

Many consumers who have drunk Chinese liquor and Korean soju will definitely think that Korean soju is very similar to Chinese liquor, so many will say that Korean soju is an imitation of Chinese liquor. So when did Korean soju originate?

Most people who have drunk soju believe that Korean soju is a replica of the Chinese liquor. As for the origin of soju, it is more credible that Ming pharmacist Li Shizhen (1518-1593) wrote in "Compendium of Materia Medica": Enter the retort, steam it to make the gas, use a device to take Dettol, Any stale wine can be steamed. Recently, only glutinous rice or millet or glutinous rice or barley is used for steaming, and the koji is steamed for ten days. "It is as clear as water, the flavor is extremely strong, and the wine is delicious." In addition to explaining that Chinese soju was founded in the Yuan Dynasty, this passage also briefly describes the brewing and distillation method of soju.

The main raw material for soju is rice, usually with wheat, barley and other grains. However, in 1965, to alleviate food shortages caused by the war, South Korea banned the use of traditional grain distillation techniques to make wine. So sweet potatoes and cassava are also added to the soju raw materials. The ban was not lifted until 1999.
